Whether you are new to paddling or have the urge to back out on the river, paddling is an affordable and fun sport that is open to all. It's great to share with friends and family or if you just want to get out on the water to relax in the peace and quite, paddling has it all.
Dereham Canoe Group is your local friendly club based at Swanton Morley run entirely by enthusiastic volunteers from the paddling community. We paddle throughout the summer months on the River Wensum which has some of the best scenery in Norfolk, and being only 5 minutes from Dereham town center and 20 minutes from Norwich, it is easily accessible from the A47.
Our committee run several events through the year across Norfolk and Suffolk and beyond, many are free to attend. These vary from Norfolk Broads and river trips, to Halloween paddling in October and a Christmas paddle in December. New or experienced, you will be supported by our qualified coaches and have plenty of opportunity to meet our club members and share paddling experiences.
Our coached River Sessions begin in May, either Wednesday or Thursday each week, and run for 10 weeks. We also run coached sessions in a local pool during winter, and are open to non-members during Go Paddling Week in May/June for 2 evenings.
We have a variety of canoes and kayaks for children and adults, and paddles, buoyancy aids and helmets are provided. Or if you wish to bring along your own, that's fine too.
